I am looking to find a wolf cichlid (Hoplias malabaricus). I had one before that was pretty large, but I had to sell it in college. Now I can't find them anywhere. The fish gets to look pretty mean and is mostly nocternal. Can anyone offer me any advice.
Thanks

The Wolf cichlid and Holpias malabaricus are 2 different fish. The Wolf cichlid is Parachromis dovii, a huge American cichlid. Hoplias malabaricus is the Wolf characin, a huge, freaky, over grown, killer tetra.
Which one are you talking about?

Most LFS's should be able to order one. If not try www.sharkaquarium.com . There are other similiar species to. Erythrinus erythrinus will reach a foot and is known as the Rainbow wolf fish. There's also a Golden Wolf, and a Giant Wolf (which will reach 4'+ I think).
Good luck

Thanks Rex,
I think I will have to wait a while until I even really think about another wolf fish. They are very mean looking and only really eat meat so you have to either have many feeder fish around or dump in beef hearts just before going to bed. Not to mention there size requirements. Thanks again
