Hi
I bought 2 Demasoni, yesterday for my Cichlid tank, which has 3 Auratus, as soon as i put them in the 3 Auratus, where chasing them all over the place, attacking them and being really aggressive, poor little things were so scared they hid behind the filter for hours, the Auratus, would chase them out and they would swim back behind the filter. i think they would of either killed them or they would be so stressed out they would die of shock.
So i decided to put them in my community tank. This is probably a really stupid idea, i dont know. So far so good, as soon as i put them in they where a completely different fish, they didnt hide, they swam around exploring, in the rocks and plants, they where much happier. I put them in my 50 gallon community tank, which has, rosey barbs, green tiger barbs, Angelfish, harlequins, corys, rainbowfish, tetras, swordtails, and a platy, they dont chase any of them (not yet anyway)
Is this a really bad idea or will they be okay with these other fish will they become aggressive and start chasing all my other fish, because i have heard they are aggressive fish.
Pleas let me know if this is good :) or bad  thanks

demasoni usually direct most of their aggressiveness at each other--they are very mean to their own kind. it's possible that your arrangement will work. as far as your cichlid tank goes..you will never be able to add any fish to that tank unless you first take out all of the decorations(no territories) and add your new fish all at once, and put back the decorations in a different arrangement with a lot of hiding places. probably the best tankmates for your auratus would be kennyi/lombardoi.

I would never disagree with Gypsy, I think of her as somewhat of a mentor! However :D any mbuna can be expected to exhibit some agression in a community tank. Life with an M. auratus will never be peaceful. If any fish can hold their own with them, it is the Kenyi (M. lombardoi). Also, the water and food requirements for an mbuna are completely different than the community fish you listed. The proper pH for your demasoni is far to high for your community fish. Of course, Gypsy (whom should be commended for showing great restraint), would advise you to "GET ANOTHER TANK"!!!

They seem really happy in my community tank at the moment :D they are chasing each other which is to be expected but get on really well with all my other community fish, they join in at meal times and go exploring round the rocks and bogwood and plants, i only bought 2 demasoni, could they live happily in my community tank or will they end up being aggressive to the other fish i have.
Is it true that cichlids, are only aggressive, and threatend by there own species, or other cichlids that look the same size and shape and colour, to them, or is it in there nature to be aggressive and territorial with all fish, not just cichlids.
I dont think my 2 demasoni, feel threatend by my other fish thats why they get on ok with the others, because my other fish dont want to attack them and there not aggressive. My 2 Angelfish are quite interested in them but the demasoni, arent bothered in the slightest, that dont attack them or aggressive in anyway. Only time will tell i guess. It would be nice to keep them they are beautiful fish.
Please let me know thanks

Hi there,
Where can I find a desription of damsoni. Can't find it on the sights I have seen.
Can someone recommend a sight that I would be able to find out the most info on Malawis?
Thank you,

If that doesn't answer the question, I don't know what you want. Demasoni might or might not work in the community tank. I personally think it's a bad idea.
