I can't seem to figure out what this little guy is. Sorta looks like a convict......but not.

I know I am exposing myself to look like an idiot yet again, but isn't that some type of Paratheraps species. The head shape looks a lot like my synspilum.

That my friends is a Cryptoheros sp. 'Cutteri' which is very closely related to Cryptoheros spilurum...aka the Jade eyed cichlid. In fact, there are some that believe the cutteri is simply a color morph of the spilurum. I guess time and further examination will tell for sure but for now it's known as Cryptoheros sp. 'Cutteri'. I picked up one from an lfs a couple days ago but it's not doing well. As much as I like this lfs because they order from Rapp's, it seems that as the fish stay in the lfs for a few days or even weeks their health deteriorates very quickly. I'll probably see if they'll get some more the next time they order from Rapp's so I can get a few more. :D

If I recall, this is a rare and fairly newly discovered species. The only place I know of to get them is Rapps or an lfs that orders from Rapps. :)
Good call Jason. Definatley Cutteri. I think in the past Rapps may have been the only avenue, however I have seen them popping up in a couple of stores up here in the past 6 months or so.
The apparently breed like sajica so there is no wonder that they are not that much or a rarity any longer!!
Very cool fish.
hrrrm now that you mention it it does look like a cutteri, although before hand i would have said strangely marked nicaraguense?
