I am breeding Lab.caeruleus for more than 2 years now and one thing I ve learnd so far is that the most reliable way to find out how many females or males you ve got is to observe your fishes when breeding! Or to be 100% sure u can see which of them are females when they are holding some eggs  I m sure u will read about some other methods as well but they will only help u by guessing :?

I have heard that a male will have more black on his dorsal and anal fins than a female will. This holds true for my pair of electric yellows but whatever works for u is the one u should use 8)

hey,
I was wondering if a electric yellow lab would mix well with a albino oscar which whom is not very aggresive.
and how big do electic yellow labs or yellow labs get?( or how big will albino sacar get if ya know ) are yellow labs a good fish and easy to care for and not aggresive. or if you know a good, fairly small fish that is a good fish that is colorfull and wont get bigger that 5 inch. would you please contact me.

--- thanks dan------- ( i have to think of the a good symbol to denote me)

South/Central Americans and Africans have completely different water condition requirements. If you adjust the water to meet the African requirements, then the South Americans (Oscar) will not be at peak health and more prone to disease. The reverse is true for the Africans. They "can" be kept together, but one or the other will not be at optimum health. IMHO

there are oodles of fish you can keep w/ oscars...angels have worked well for me you just gotta make sure they get enough food....oscars=always hungry..green/gold severum...pike cichlids...as for small fish festivum will work very well...although if you own an oscar albino or otherwise it seems to me you should have a tank big enough for a couple more fish even larger ones...oscars they get big fast and like space...so i wouldnt concern myself w/ size too much cause eventually it would be humane to keep a fish the size of an oscar in a 55g so you should have some room to play with...btw mbuniac is so very right 8.2....6.0 hmm wee bit differen....and thats just the icing...stick to the biotype...

I have a pair of Electric Yellows Labs, male and female. The male will get what I call a "5 0'clock shadow" when he is matured enough to breed. The cheek, or gill area will have a greyish or blueish tint, and he has much more definition to the black on his fins. The female's black coloration is much more dilute.
