Can anyone give me any explanation on how to compress my photos. I saw a post that said "no pic should be over 200kb".
200 kb???? My pics are almost 1mb (1000kb) each. I definitley need to find a way to compress my photos.

There are folks here who know a lot more on the subject of digital photos and compression, but in short:

Save/export photos to (web-ready) JPG format. How you do this depends on your graphics program. On Adobe Photoshop, for example, it can be as simple as clicking "Save for web."

In most cases, and if a good graphics program is used, there's no appreciable difference--to the human eye at least--between 200 kb and 1000 kb file sizes.

Try posting the question in the Photo Forum: Should be lots of people there who can help out.

That's one way to get it done but unfortunately has the undesired effect of unnecessarily using server space that could otherwise be better employed by other members if those 1 MB files are left there.

We're a long way from running out of space on the current drives, but it's never to early to share resources.

Thanks for the helpful comments guys. Problem is solved, I just downloaded a software package that lets me compress without loss of quality. My 1mb pics are now down to 133kb. Thanks anyways guys, and Have a Happy New Year.

Future Information.

Step one would be to resize your picture for the web, step two would be to save the image as a jpeg and use the quality slider.
