View Full Version : How to get more accurate NO3 readings

Just tested my NO3 levels and was happy to get only 30ppm considering my tap water has nitrate in it. I am very pleased

I saw this today at The Skeptical Aquarist. Fill two 5ml test tubes with distilled water and one tube with tank water, combine and stir. Take 5ml of this mixture and test as normal. Whatever the ppm ends up being times it by three to get the actual amount.

It worked great for me. Kept the reading in the bright orange (10ml) area for an accurate reading instead of guessing what shade of red it is closest to.:)
