I'm wondering what kind of cichlids I have and how well they relate with each other.
I have named them Red Fish and Blue Fish, Blue fish is the more obvious of the two, and he seems to like me. But Red Fish just hides a lot and is chased quite a bit by Blue fish. I thought maybe getting more cichlids migh divert the attention, but I'm not sure if their behavior is too far out of the ordinary. Let me know if you have any thoughts, Thanks.
I made this site quick to display the pictures. (warning, it's nothing fancy)

I'm not the best at this... but the bottom one 'blue fish" looks like a Nibocrombis Venustus and a male one at that. He will get more greeny blue as he grows up. He is a very aggressive fish, hence the chasing, he will get more agressive as he reaches sexual maturity. The top one doesn't look red to me. It's hard to tell from the picture. It almost looks like a Kennyi with the yellow just starting to come in. But at the same time (again because of the picture) depending on the angle its on, it may be some kind of a Peacock... but I'm not sure.
take a few more pictures of the "red fish" from different angles and link to them. Until his colours come in it may be difficult to precisley identify him though.
good luck and I hope I helped a little...

well, i can give you a partial answer--they are both haplochromines from lake malawi. they might be aulonocaras(peacocks). the blue one is almost certainly male.

8) Looking at the blue fish it looks like it's a Sciaenchromisis Fryeri (Electric Blue)

One fish two fish; Red fish Blue fish.
I didn't know what to name them, the blue fish was a given, but I didn't know what to call the other, so he ended up being red fish thanks to Dr. Suess
It may just be the picture, but that bottom one really looks like a juvinile Nimbochromis Venustus.

I just realized the link doesn't work. Search Venustus + cichlid in google and then select images. You will see what I mean.
good luck

My first thought was a Lethrinops of some sort, the male anyway. :?:
Need a better view of the female
I dont know if you'll ever know for sure

I agree, after looking up all the pictures possible on all species given. He looks the most like Aulonocara Stuart.... Still haven't gotten the last part of that word, but you know. Peacock.
The other looks a lot like him, and the guy at the pet store had a mating pair, but I thought he said he would get me a swordtail. But with all of my searching I haven't heard of any reffered to as a swordtail.
Thanks for all the help!

They look like Haps to me (IMHO). I like the Dr. Seuss connection.

I'm thinkin Aulonocara Jacobfreibergi notice the hump on the face/head. Thats a jake trait, swallowtail is a jake among others this one may be a hybrid though? and thats probaly the female in the top pic.

I agree with Boilermaker here, those are Jacobs, one is possibly female (red fish) and the other is male (blue fish)

juvinile venustus, males na d females look the same. and the blue fish doesn't have the coloration of a venustus eityher.
i think theyre both peacocks.
