yes diff con's and I see you have a African possibly Labeotropheus fuelleborni (Chidunga) how does that work as far as compatiblity?

Thanks for clearing that up for me guys, I didnt know convicts came with some coloration, that is why I wondered maybe HRP.
Thanks for the great comments. As for compatibility whispering wolf, I only acquired the "con" a little while ago, and the 5 inch Zebra Mbuna seems not to mind him. Of course, the con has it's own little territory ( a log and a plant) and hes always safe in there, since the Zebra can't fit in there. But, so far so good. Thanks again for clearing up my cichlid identification problem and thanks for the comments.

here are some pics I found. keep in mind that these fish are one of the most difficult to capture in pics due to their metallic coloration. :ok:

I'm not sure if you can tell by the pics, but if you have both cons and HRP's you'll notice the body of a HRP is more elongated and they're not quite as tall and stocky as a convict. :) and in person, you absolutely cannot mistake the 2 due to the blue coloration of a HRP. :ok:

Nice pics, Jason! I'll have a better camera in a couple days, but here's one of my males (assuming the low-res avatar doesn't do it for ya:D):

Your fish looks very good for a female nigrofasciatus. No shame, be proud! Good breeder candidate; you would enjoy watching this fish in action.

Those fish are insanely beautiful! How are they as far as size/aggression and the rest goes?

My lil hrps are still babies I think. I have 7 red points and 1 pleco and have had them for about 3 - 4 months. The biggest 1 is about 2.5 inches. I heard that the males get about 4" and the females get about 2.5".
They have all been pretty docile with each other, and the only chasing has been just in the past week.
I have 2 pairs starting to claim rocks and pots, so I might have to get another tank to separate them or take some to the lfs.

Cons and all their brethren are some of the most underrated fish in the hobby. They're full of character!

Yeah, I had a baby male con that handled his own, even amongst baby Jags and Butti's. Of course as soon as the Jag and Butti outgrew him, he was no longer a match for either one, But pound for pound (well ounce for ounce), the Convict cichlid is hard to beat.

What exactly is a HRP stand for?

"HRP" = Honduran Red Point
