I was curious about dwarf puffers and whether one could live a good life in a small aquarium 5-10 gallon? <I realize at that size I should stick to just one>
I remember reading in the past I just need a refresh from one who actually keeps em.

yeah i would say one for a 5 gallon and 2 for a 10 gallon. also, with the bloodworms and their "dirtyness" i would suggest a 50% water change once a week or so.
they are really easy to keep as long as they get enough food. i don't keep any now but have had a few in the past. great little fish

Any suggestions for a fresh water species? And do they do better with a tank mate or better with out?
I know with say cory cats it's almost cruel to not group em, just and example.

dp's do really well together, but don't necessarily *need* another for a school or anything.
on the other hand, many puffer species don't like each other and will fight a lot. in a 5 gallon, really the only puffs i would put in there would be the Dwarfs. in a ten gallon you could prolly put a fang's or modestus puffer (only one though).
also, if you can get irribusco's or lorteti's those would do okay in a ten gallon also, however, those are harder to find (and prolly only one as well)
i'd say try out dwarf puffs first and see how ya like em. they are active, and you could put a bottom feeder or something else with them if you wanted
you might visit www.thepufferforum.com and read a little. there is some good info on that board

Glaive,
Whatever bottom feeder you put in their, those little dwarfs will pick on it until they kill it. They are mean little suckers. I have one in a seven. I could probably put one more in, but I think he likes being alone.
I Keep two irubescos and one lorteti in a twelve and they do fine together.

Agez,
My fahaka has become my favorite fish. Tons of personality and a truly voracious eater. His favorite food is live crayfish.
