Alright, so i'm stealing a 40 gallon long glass aquarium from my boyfriend who isn't useing it. I'm planning on moveing my cichlids from my 30 hex to the 40. I priced hoods and light fixtures at my LFS and found it would cost me a good $80 dollars. (i'm 16, and i deffintely don't have that kind of money to spend on just a hood) so i went to the hardware store, and found a light fixture that fits across the entire tank (4 feet long) and cool floresent bulbs, for only 13 dollars. I am also curently in the process of makeing glass/pelxiglass cover with a handle to open it.

my next project is what i need help with. My desk that my 20 long is currently on is already straining with the weight. Also the tank would hang off each side a good 4 inches. I need to build a stand to support my 40 long with the whole setup, includeing lots of rocks. if anybody could give me any advice or instructions it would be greattly appreciated, i have no idea where to begin.

Building a stand isn't too difficult, you just have to make sure your cuts are the right length and are square. There are several discussions regarding stand building in other diy threads. You can also do a google search for "aquarium stand diy" or "aquarium stand building" and just modify whatever plans you find to the dimensions of your tank. Let us know if you have more questions.
