the lights in my new 100gal keep flickering on and off every now and then. this normal or should i get new hood and/or bulbs?..

try rotating the bulb a little bit.

Its a sign the bulbs could be getting old and that the hood might need to be replaced. Mine did that forever and I finally bit the bullet and got a new hood and bulbs.

hmmm... that is strange but you could have bought a lemon, I'd take it back. Maybe you could rub some of that contact grease akin to the kind used on car battery cables, but I would not do it without confering with an electrician

Just return it and get another.
Unless it is electronic ballasts and they gave you the wrong lights. Electronic ballasts are and energy efficient way to light your aquarium and don't have the power to run most bulbs so they flicker. You have to buy quick start, powerglo or other bulbs that are compatible with electronic ballasts.
